Marrakech airport waiting time: official figures and real peaks
In the first half of 2026, passport control at Marrakech Menara took 6.86 minutes on average on arrival and 5.09 minutes on departure, according to the airport operator. That is a six-month average: it tells you nothing about your flight, and how long you actually wait depends mostly on how many aircraft land at the same time as yours.
Fast Track Premium at Marrakech: 200 EUR per adult · 100 EUR aged 2 to 12 · free under 2. Arrival and departure are booked separately. Book at least 48 hours before your flight.

The official figures for the first half of 2026
On 28 July 2026, Airports of Morocco (the new name of ONDA, the national airports authority) published average passport control times for the first half of 2026, reported the same day by the Moroccan business press. The operator credits the improvement to the national police (DGSN) and the Interior Ministry.
| Airport | Arrival | Departure |
|---|---|---|
| Marrakech Menara | 6.86 min (down 16% year on year) | 5.09 min (down 22.5%) |
| Casablanca Mohammed V | 5.4 min (nearly 12 min a year earlier) | 2.25 min (about 7.5 min a year earlier) |
| All Moroccan airports | 9.6 min (down 22%) | 3.6 min (down 24%) |
These are low numbers. If you have read horror stories, check their date. The best known, in Morocco World News in November 2018, quoted a British traveller who took three and a half hours to reach a police desk. That account is history, written before the 2025 changes and the extra staff, not a description of the airport today.
In between, ONDA said in March 2025 that the average wait at Marrakech had been brought under an hour, with a 30-minute target and electronic gates (e-gates) listed among future projects. We found no dated official source confirming that e-gates are in service at Marrakech as of 20 October 2026, so we do not claim they are.
What the average does not tell you
A six-month average blends a quiet Tuesday in February with a Saturday night in August. Keep three limits in mind:
- It covers passport control only. Leaving the aircraft, walking to the hall, collecting bags, customs and finding your driver are not included.
- It gives no spread and no peak: no maximum, no figure by time of day.
- Its method is not published. The statement reported by the press does not say exactly what is timed (the queue, the desk, or both), and we will not guess.
What explains the gap between the average and your own experience is capacity. Marrakech Menara handled 10,197,736 passengers in 2025, a record, according to ONDA figures reported by Hespress on 4 February 2026. In August 2024, when tenders for the extension were launched, the airport's capacity was given as 7.4 million passengers a year, to be raised to 16 million. On 2 September 2026, Morocco's national portal maroc.ma reported that Menara had passed 30,000 passengers in a single day during the summer.
So the airport runs above its design capacity while it waits for its new terminals. In that situation the average throughput matters less than the wave: several European flights landing in the same slot, their passengers reaching the hall together. You cannot know in advance whether your aircraft will be part of one, or whether a delayed flight will land on top of yours.
When the queues build
We will not publish peak hours until we have dated, logged timings to show you. Public sources only tell us when the airport is busiest:
- Summer. The record of more than 30,000 passengers in a day was set in the 2026 summer season.
- School holidays in Europe. In France, the 2026 Christmas holidays run from 19 December 2026 to 4 January 2027 in all three zones; pupils without Saturday classes finish on Friday 18 December. If you are flying from the UK, check your own local authority's term dates: they vary by area.
You will find much longer waiting times quoted online for peak season. None of them rests on a published measurement, so we do not repeat them.
On arrival: what takes time besides your passport
Passport control is one step out of five:
- Leaving the aircraft. You follow the signs for international arrivals to passport control.
- Passport control. Border police stamp your passport; there has been no landing card since 16 September 2019. Check the stamp before you walk away.
- Baggage. Checked bags come out after passport control, on the belt shown for your flight. When the police check is quick, this is often where you wait.
- Customs. You go through with your bags. Foreign currency worth 100,000 dirhams or more must be declared, and bringing in a drone without prior authorisation risks a fine and confiscation.
- The arrivals hall. You still have to find your driver or a taxi, with luggage and possibly children.
Each formality is explained, with sources, in our guide to arriving in Morocco by air.
On departure
The official average at the departure police check in Marrakech is 5.09 minutes. Since 7 March 2025, the scanners and walk-through detectors have been removed from the terminal entrances, which took away one queue before check-in. What remains is the check-in desk, the police check and the security check. For the time to arrive, see our article on departing from Marrakech airport.
How to get through faster, with or without fast track
A few things help and cost nothing:
- Keep your passport in hand from the moment you leave the aircraft, and one for each child: every minor needs their own.
- Travel with cabin bags only if you can, and the wait at the belt disappears.
- Sit near the front of the aircraft, so you reach the hall ahead of the rest of the flight.
- Book your driver in advance, with flight tracking, so you are not looking for transport at the exit. Our Marrakech airport transfers start at 45 EUR per vehicle to the Medina, Gueliz or Hivernage.
Fast track, sometimes sold as VIP meet and greet, answers a different question: not depending on the wave. With our Fast Track Premium, an agent meets you as you step off the aircraft with a sign bearing your name, takes you to passport control and steers you to the priority lane when it is open, stays with you through customs, then hands you over to your chauffeur, whom they have kept informed. Your flight is tracked: the actual landing time counts, at no extra cost.
Fast track does not skip any police or customs check, you present your own documents, and no clearance time is guaranteed. If a seven-minute average is enough for you, you do not need it. It makes sense if you arrive with young children or an elderly parent, after a long journey, or if you would rather not bet your first hour in Marrakech on other airlines' timetables.
Marrakech airport fast track: price and booking
Fast Track Premium costs 200 EUR per adult, 100 EUR per child aged 2 to 12, and is free under 2, at the same price in all six airports we serve. A couple with an eight-year-old pays 500 EUR. Arrival and departure are booked separately, each with its own flight number. Bookings close 48 hours before your flight time; you pay online by card, in euros, and cancellation is free more than 7 days ahead. On the English site, amounts in pounds and dollars are indicative.
The service at Marrakech is described step by step on our Marrakech Menara airport fast track page. To add the chauffeur, choose "Both" on the booking page: the agent then calls the chauffeur directly, including if your flight is late.

Frequently asked questions
How long is the passport queue at Marrakech airport?
On average 6.86 minutes on arrival and 5.09 minutes on departure in the first half of 2026, according to Airports of Morocco. It is a six-month average and does not tell you the wait for a given flight on a busy day.
Why do some travellers still talk about waiting for hours?
Because an average smooths out the peaks, and the worst stories often predate 2025. The airport handled more than 10 million passengers in 2025 against a stated capacity of 7.4 million, and several flights can reach passport control together.
How long does it take to get out of Marrakech airport after landing?
No official source publishes the total time from aircraft to exit. Disembarking, baggage, customs and finding transport come on top of passport control.
Does fast track mean no waiting?
No, it skips no check and guarantees no clearance time. An agent escorts you from the aircraft to your chauffeur and steers you to the priority lane when it is open.
Are there e-gates at Marrakech airport?
We found no official source confirming they are in service at Marrakech as of 20 October 2026. They were announced as a project in March 2025; Casablanca has had automatic gates since March 2025.
Can I book fast track on the day?
No, bookings close 48 hours before your flight time, online or by phone. Airport access procedures do not allow later bookings.
