# Arriving in Morocco by air in 2026: formalities, checks and Fast Track

The police card disappeared in 2019, Casablanca replaced the second passport check with automatic gates in 2025, and the airport operator published its average passport control times in July 2026. Here are the formalities that apply in 2026 at the six airports where we offer Fast Track, from the aircraft to the exit and from the terminal to boarding, each rule with its source and date.

## Airport formalities in Morocco in 2026: the essentials

Arriving in Morocco by air means going through the same stages at the six airports where we offer Fast Track: Marrakech Menara, Casablanca Mohammed V, Rabat-Salé, Tangier Ibn Battouta, Fez-Saïss and Agadir Al Massira. The rules below come from the British, French and Moroccan authorities and from the airport operator's announcements. Each fact is dated, and its sources are listed at the end of the article. These rules can change: check them before you travel.

- A passport is required: an identity card alone is no longer accepted for entry into Morocco. The validity required depends on your nationality.
- Stays of up to 90 days for British and French nationals; beyond that, an extension must be requested in Morocco.
- No police card to fill in since 16 September 2019, either on arrival or on departure.
- Dirhams: no more than 2,000 DH in banknotes per traveller, on entry and on exit.
- Foreign currency: declaration to customs from the equivalent of 100,000 DH.
- Drones: not allowed into the country without prior authorisation.
- Fast Track: an agent accompanies you through the formalities, without exempting you from any check.

## Passport, visa and length of stay

For British nationals, the UK government's travel advice for Morocco, updated on 19 August 2026, requires a passport with an expiry date at least 3 months after the date you arrive. You can visit Morocco without a visa for up to 90 days for tourism; to stay longer, you must request an extension at a Moroccan police station.

For French nationals, the French government's advice, updated on 15 September 2026, requires a passport valid for the whole planned stay, including for organised group tours. An identity card alone is no longer accepted for entry into Morocco.

The French government's advice also sets the maximum stay at 90 days, with an extension of up to three months available from the Moroccan immigration service, and states that an overstay is punished by a fine and by expulsion with a ban on returning. It adds that every non-resident visitor, whether or not they need a visa, should be able to show a return ticket and proof of sufficient funds on arrival.

For other nationalities, visa rules vary. The official Accès Maroc portal (acces-maroc.ma), linked to the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, tells you whether you need a visa based on your nationality, country of residence, passport type and purpose of travel.

One last point that is often overlooked: on arrival, check that border police have stamped your passport. The UK government notes that some travellers have had difficulties leaving Morocco because their passport had no entry stamp, and the French government gives the same advice.

## Travelling with children under 18

On the Moroccan side, the French government's advice states that every child needs their own valid passport, and recommends carrying a document that proves parentage. A child travelling alone or with a third party should carry an authorisation from their parents bearing their certified signatures. In the case of divorce, it is advisable to carry a copy of the judgment granting custody.

For children who live in France, French law adds an exit authorisation (AST) when they leave France without a person holding parental authority. It is not needed if the child travels with their father or mother, even when the parents are separated. The child then carries the completed form, a photocopy of the signing parent's identity document and their own valid identity document, which for Morocco means their passport (Service-Public.fr, page checked on 20 March 2026).

## What has changed at Moroccan airports since 2019

Here, in chronological order, are the dated changes affecting formalities at the six airports, as announced by the Moroccan authorities or by the airport operator.

| Date | Airport | Change |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 16 September 2019 | All | The embarkation and disembarkation card, known as the police card, is abolished, on departure and on arrival. |
| 27 June 2023 | Casablanca Mohammed V | A single international arrivals area opens for Terminals 1 and 2: 3,500 m², 47 passport control desks, 9 baggage carousels. |
| November 2023 | Tangier Ibn Battouta | The renovated Terminal 1 takes over domestic and international arrivals. |
| Early March 2025 | Casablanca Mohammed V | The scanners and walk-through detectors at the airport entrances are removed. The operator says strict security standards are maintained. |
| 7 March 2025 | Marrakech Menara | The inspection devices at the entrances (scanners and walk-through detectors) are removed in turn. |
| Mid-March 2025 | Casablanca Mohammed V | The double check, which required passengers to show their passport a second time after it was stamped, on international departures and arrivals, is replaced by automatic gates. |
| 15 April 2025 | Casablanca Mohammed V | New departures forecourt: passengers are dropped off on the first floor, with 10 minutes of free drop-off and entrance doors assigned by airline. |
| July 2025 | All | Morocco's national airports office (ONDA) adopts the brand name Airports of Morocco, rolled out at every airport in the country from August 2025. |
| July 2026 | All | The operator publishes average passport control times for the first half of 2026 (see below). |

In March 2025, ONDA announced that automatic gates would be gradually extended to every airport in the Kingdom as each one was equipped. We found no dated official source confirming that they are in service at Marrakech, Rabat, Tangier, Fez or Agadir, so we do not claim it. At Rabat-Salé, Fez-Saïss and Agadir Al Massira, the sources we consulted show no change to formalities specific to the airport; the national rules apply.

## On arrival: the stages in order

At all six airports, arriving on an international flight follows the same order. Only the layout changes from one terminal to another.

- Leaving the aircraft. You follow the signs for international arrivals to passport control.
- Passport control. Border police check your passport and stamp it. There is no card to fill in. Check that the stamp is there before you move on. At Casablanca, since March 2025, the second passport check that used to follow the stamp has been replaced by automatic gates.
- Baggage reclaim. Checked baggage is collected after passport control, from the carousel shown for your flight. At Casablanca, the arrivals area shared by both terminals has 9 carousels.
- Customs. You go through customs with your baggage. Foreign currency worth 100,000 DH or more must be declared here, as must anything that may be prohibited or subject to duty and tax. The UK government points out that Moroccan airports are equipped to detect items prohibited by customs.
- The exit. You leave the customs area for the public arrivals hall.

## Passport control: the official 2026 times

On 28 July 2026, Airports of Morocco published average passport control times for the first half of 2026, reported the same day by the Moroccan business press. The operator credits the improvement to the efforts of the national police (DGSN) and the Ministry of the Interior.

| Airport | On arrival | On departure |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Average across Moroccan airports | 9.6 min, down 22% on 2025 | 3.6 min, down 24% year on year |
| Casablanca Mohammed V | 5.4 min, against nearly 12 min a year earlier | 2.25 min, against about 7.5 min in the first half of 2025 |
| Marrakech Menara | 6.86 min, down 16% | 5.09 min, down 22.5% |
| Tangier Ibn Battouta | 11.93 min, down 52% | not published |
| Fez-Saïss | not published | 1.53 min |
| Agadir Al Massira | under 10 min | not published |
| Rabat-Salé | not published | not published |

These are six-month averages that mix quiet and peak hours: they do not tell you the wait for a given flight on a given day. They cover passport control only, not baggage reclaim or customs.

## On departure: from the terminal to boarding

On departure, the stages are the terminal entrance, check-in, the police check, the security check and boarding. We do not give a single order for the police and security checks: it depends on the airport, and the signs on site are what count.

- The terminal entrance. At Casablanca and Marrakech, the scanners and walk-through detectors that screened travellers at the entrance were removed in early March 2025. At Casablanca, since 15 April 2025, drop-off has been on the first floor, with 10 minutes free and entrance doors assigned by airline.
- Check-in. At your airline's desk, you drop off your hold baggage. At Casablanca, Royal Air Maroc moved all its flights, international and domestic, to Terminal 1 in 2019, together with some partner airlines: check the terminal shown on your ticket.
- The police check. Border police check your passport. At Casablanca, automatic gates have replaced the second passport check since March 2025.
- The security check. You and your hand baggage are screened before the boarding area.
- Boarding. Be at the gate at the time set by your airline.

The check-in deadline and the recommended arrival time are given by your airline: they appear on your ticket or in its confirmation. Fast Track does not replace them. Before you leave, also remember the dirham rule: no more than 2,000 DH in banknotes per traveller when leaving Morocco.

## Customs, foreign currency and dirhams: what the rules say

The dirham is a closed, non-convertible currency: according to the UK government, it cannot easily be exchanged outside Morocco. Morocco's foreign exchange office (Office des changes) sets out the principle: importing and exporting dirhams is prohibited. Travellers may, however, carry up to 2,000 DH in banknotes in or out, to cover certain expenses when they return to Morocco. When you leave the country, do not keep more than 2,000 DH in banknotes.

Foreign currency (euros, pounds sterling, dollars) must be declared to customs, on entry and on exit, once its value reaches 100,000 DH. For a non-resident, taking out currency brought into Morocco is subject to declaration to border customs, and the declaration made on entry serves to prove where it came from. Keep it until the end of your trip.

For purchases and gifts, Moroccan customs (ADII) grants foreign tourists an exemption from duty and tax on goods carried in their accompanied baggage, up to a value of 2,000 DH. It comes from decree no. 2-12-594, published in the Official Bulletin of 31 December 2012, as ADII restated in October 2022. Beyond that amount, or for any item that may be prohibited or taxed, the UK government's advice is simple: declare it.

The duty-free quantities of tobacco, alcohol and perfume are not given in this article: the Moroccan customs website could not be accessed during our research, and the figures published elsewhere do not agree. Check with ADII before you travel.

- Drones. The UK government states that you must get permission from the Directorate General for Civil Aviation to bring a drone into Morocco, or risk fines and confiscation of your equipment. The French government's advice adds that bringing in a drone is totally prohibited without prior authorisation for professional use.
- Medicines. The UK government points out that the legal status of some medicines differs from one country to another, and advises bringing an adequate supply for the whole trip. The French government's advice is to take only the medicines you strictly need, in their original packaging, with a prescription listing them by their international non-proprietary name, and to check that they are authorised in the country.

## Fast Track: what it does and what it does not do

TMC Conciergerie's Fast Track Premium is available at the six airports covered in this article, on arrival and on departure. An agent accompanies you through the formalities described above.

Its limits are set out in our booking terms. Fast Track does not exempt you from any formality or from any police, customs or security check, and it guarantees no clearance time. You show your documents yourself, and you remain responsible for their validity and for that of the documents of the people travelling with you. Nor does it replace your airline's check-in deadline.

The price is the same at all six airports: 200 EUR per adult (13 and over), 100 EUR per child aged 2 to 12, free for children under 2. Bookings must be made at least 48 hours before the flight: airport access procedures do not allow later bookings.

## Frequently asked questions

### Do I still need to fill in a police card when I arrive in Morocco?

No. The embarkation and disembarkation card was abolished on 16 September 2019, for arrivals and departures, at Moroccan airports. Only your passport is checked, and stamped on entry.

### How long must my passport be valid?

It depends on your nationality. For a British national, the passport must have an expiry date at least 3 months after the date you arrive, according to the UK government. For a French national, it must be valid for the whole stay, according to the French government. For other nationalities, check on the Accès Maroc portal.

### How many dirhams can I take out of Morocco?

No more than 2,000 DH in banknotes per traveller, according to the Office des changes. The same limit applies on entry. Foreign currency, for its part, must be declared to customs once its value reaches 100,000 DH.

### Does Fast Track let me skip passport control?

No. Border police and customs checks are state formalities that no service can remove. With Fast Track, an agent accompanies you through these formalities; you show your documents yourself, and no clearance time is guaranteed.

### Can I book Fast Track the day before my flight?

No. Bookings must be made at least 48 hours before the flight time, online, by phone or on WhatsApp. No booking is possible after that.

### Can I bring a drone to Morocco?

Not without permission. The UK government says you must get permission from the Directorate General for Civil Aviation, or risk fines and confiscation; the French government's advice describes bringing in a drone as totally prohibited without prior authorisation for professional use.
